When Toyota designed the Landcruiser, it was loaded up with all the state-of-the-art features you'd expect from the legendary Australian off-road king. Now, due to popular demand, it has been stripped back to its workhorse best with the introduction of the Landcruiser 200 GX.

A showcase of function, the new LC200 GX comes with 'barn doors' for more convenient loading directly into the back of the vehicle. It also comes with a snorkel for dusty or flooded terrain and vinyl interior floor coverings, both practical choices for hard-working Australians.

LC200 GX is made to handle the tough Australian terrain, with underbody protection plates and CRAWL control technology, that automatically maintains a low uniform speed for more stable driving when off-road.

• Prius c Australia's most affordable hybrid 20-Feb-2012
  

  Toyota expects to have the most affordable hybrid car on the market when it launches the Prius c hatch late next month. The company’s executive director sales and marketing Matthew Callachor said Prius c will have an advantage in the “thousands of dollars” over the $29,990* price of the best–priced rival hybrid car.

  “Prius c will bring Toyota’s renowned Hybrid Synergy Drive® technology to a new segment of buyers at a more accessible price,” Mr Callachor said.

  “It will appeal to consumers seeking spirited driving dynamics, fuel efficiency and technology in a compact yet spacious city car.

  “In addition to its price advantage, Prius c will deliver more power, better fuel economy and more relaxed cruising from its bigger 1.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor.

  “Toyota’s new hybrid car is also taller for excellent head clearance, including in the rear, and has a smaller turning circle – ideal for tight city streets and car parks,” he said.

  Prius c is already a hit in its home market of Japan with Toyota holding orders for more than 120,000 cars – or 10 times the monthly sales target.

  Mr Callachor said the initial allocation of cars for Australia had not been affected; however, the overwhelming demand in Japan was likely to result in tight supply throughout 2012.

  He said Prius c was the result of smart thinking and clever packaging of Toyota’s proven hybrid technology, which now has spent more than 14 years on world markets.

  “The Prius c fuel tank and hybrid battery are located under the rear seat, ensuring plenty of legroom for all occupants and abundant luggage space.

  ‘The hybrid system’s major components are small, light and efficient, contributing to a low centre of gravity and agile dynamics that help make the Prius c a fun–to–drive car,‘ he said.

  Prius c is the newest member of the expanding Prius family that includes the third–generation Prius hatch already on sale in Australia and the versatile Prius due here in the second quarter of 2012.

• Toyota unveils new '86' sports car 10-Aug-2011
  

  Toyota has taken the wraps off its newest sports car, announcing it will be called Toyota 86 or "hachi roku" in its home market, Japan. The unveiling occurred when Toyota president Akio Toyoda drove a production prototype down the main straight of the Fuji Speedway, south of Tokyo.

  Mr Toyoda said the new rear-wheel-drive sports car was all about "waku doki" - a car that creates excitement and gets your heart racing.

  "I am very proud of this car," Mr Toyoda said. "Thank you for the patience of car lovers. They are going to enjoy this car."

  The 86 is a rear-wheel-drive car with intuitive handling that embodies the essence of driving enjoyment.

  It features the world's first horizontally opposed D-4S engine, combining "boxer" engine technology with Toyota's cutting-edge D-4S direct injection technology.

  The engine is installed front mid-ship to create an ultra-low centre of gravity and low inertia. It is the world's only horizontally opposed engine and rear-wheel-drive package.As a result, the 86 offers fun driving at a level unprecedented in earlier sports cars.

  It carries on the spirit of the AE86 Corolla in its aim to be a car that evolves with its owner.

  The lightweight and compact rear-wheel-drive platform was designed to achieve superior handling and create the world's smallest mass-production four-passenger sports car (by volume).

  The vehicle's newly developed engine delivers exceptional output and torque as well as superior response at low and medium speeds.

  The D-4S, with separate twin injectors for both direct injection and port injection, boasts a high compression ratio of 12.5:1. This provides high output and high torque over a wide range of engine speeds and contributes to improved environmental performance.

  The engine's redline is 7500rpm with maximum output of 147kW. Even so, the engine achieves fuel efficiency and environmental performance that rivals that of a standard two-litre sedan.

  Customers will have the choice of a six-speed manual transmission or a special sports-driving six-speed automatic transmission.

  The 86 has the lowest hip-point of any Toyota-brand production vehicle and creates a driving position suited for driving enjoyment.

  The rear seatbacks fold down to the front to create a luggage space that can accommodate four sports wheels or two golf bags.

  The exterior design features a predatory look at the front; the sides are a modern take on Toyota's sports-car heritage; and the rear view is wide and sturdy despite the compact cabin.

  The interior design seeks the essence of sports cars by emphasising the form, placement and materials of each element.

  The seatbacks and cushion surfaces are designed to provide support during acceleration g-forces from the front, the back and to the sides. In addition, the shape of the front seats is designed to prevent elbows from interfering with gearshift operation.

  The circular steering wheel has a diameter of 365 mm, the smallest in a Toyota-brand vehicle. The wheel's surface was optimised with exhaustive feedback from test drivers to enhance steering performance and grip.

  A three-cluster meter built around the tachometer has been designed with particular attention paid to display placement, markings and typeface to enhance visibility and readability during sports driving.

  Sci-Fleet Toyota were on-board again for this year’s National Tree Day, a special day founded by Planet Ark which has become one of the largest community and tree planting events in Australia.
  
  For more than 10 years we have partnered up with Kenmore State High School each year to assist their ongoing project of regenerating the Moggill Creek catchment area.
  
  This long-term relationship has seen the planting of thousands of trees donated by Sci-Fleet, and funding major removal of noxious weeds which have infested the creek area.   One of Queensland's most successful automotive dealership groups has shown that experience improves the breed, winning the top award from Toyota Australia for an impressive eleventh time.
  
  Sci-Fleet Toyota was presented with the Toyota President's Award for Excellence, the highest honour for a dealer.
  
  The group, which began operating in the early 1970s and now has Toyota dealerships at Kedron, Albion and Taringa, has seen the Japanese brand grow into the world's biggest car company and the market leader in Australia.
  
  Toyota Australia's executive director of sales and marketing Matthew Gallachor presented dealer principal Andrew Scifleet with the President's Award at a special ceremony in the dealership.
  
  Mr Gallachor said Award recipients stood head and shoulders above the rest of the industry for their highly skilled people, accurate customer data and cutting-edge systems.
  
  "Sci-Fleet Toyota is an outstanding dealership that deserves respect and recognition for its achievements," Mr Gallachor said.
  
  "Winning for the eleventh time is remarkable and demonstrates that Andrew and his people continually strive to evolve and improve their processes for the benefit of their customers.
  
  "They also play a significant role in the community, sponsoring many organisations including sporting clubs such as the Brisbane Broncos and Norths Devils, schools such as Brisbane Boys College and community groups such as Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors Worldwide."
  
  Mr Callachor thanked customers for their loyalty and said Toyota was striving to do even better to continue to earn and deserve their loyalty.
  
  Toyota's regional manager Sean Hanley said Sci-Fleet Toyota's success came from its innovations as well as industry-leading processes and systems.
  
  "The support of customers has enabled Toyota to continue as the market leader in Queensland with 2009 sales higher than the combined totals of its two nearest rivals," Mr Hanley said.
  
  "Last year, Toyota's Queensland dealers sold 19,000 passenger cars, more than one out of every four SUVs and 30 per cent of all light-commercial vehicles," he said.
  
  "So far this year, Toyota's Queensland sales are up by 14.7 per cent and HiLux is once again the State's best-selling car."
  
  In Australia, Toyota has now sold more than five million vehicles and is the best-selling vehicle brand and the country's leading automotive exporter.
